AC2 - Problem Solving

Project 2:
(student app)
Color palettes:
-
Red is eye-catching, therefore it can be used to show the most important text.
-
Grey background is neutral but maybe not appealing to all audiences

-
Black background may be appealing to some people but it doesn't look very clean
-
I tried changing up the red for orange but it's not as eyecatching as the color commonly used for notifications

Fonts:
-
I tried to have a thick font as I thought it would be easier to read from far, however it just looks blurrier and looks like the spacing is small
-
The thinner font was also too difficult to see from far
-
The one I ended up using is Helvetica Neue, Apple inc proved that this is the easiest font to read on digital displays. It is easy to read even when it's small.

Design 1:
-
The color palette is odd and doesn’t look good
-
All the information is relevant
-
The blocks on the right are misleading
-
There’s an odd empty space on the left
Design 2:
-
Color palette looks better, not all people might like these colors
-
Small widget might need more information and it also has awkward spacing
Design 3:
-
Gray background might be more calming for the eye than white
-
Red text becomes main focus
-
Unclear which is the current class
-
Maybe highlight one of the blocks
-
Implement more colors
-
Make it simpler
Design 4:
-
Red indicates the current block, gray indicates past blocks
-
More simple design with less information
Design 5:
-
I made the past blocks gray, as they aren't as important to highlight anymore
Design 6 (final design):
-
The important information is in red which is the center of attention
-
Colors make it easy to navigate
-
Text size and font is readable from far
Smaller versions
Design 1:
-
Color pallette is not the most appealing
-
There's a gap in the middle that could be used better
-
The grey text is hard to read
Design 2:
-
The colors look clean and eyecatching
-
The available space is not used well
-
The layout doesn't allow much information to be displayed.
Design 3:
-
I tried only showing the coming block, rather than all classes of the day
-
The white text is hard to read if it's too small against the green
-
I tested a grey background and it looks slightly better because it's not too bright.
Design 4 (final design):
-
I kept the same color palette but just changed the layout
-
I made the full-day schedule at the bottom with each class location, the current class is in red so it's easy to know what class you're on
-
I made the following class (the most important information) red and put it in two places to make it easy to see
I made some extra designs with different colors in case the user would like to customize it to their liking.

Design 1:
-
I experimented with having card slots on each side of the wallet. I didn't come very far as I realized that the card slot layers weren't aligned properly.
Design 2:
-
I created the second design with the same idea in mind. This time I used a piece of transparent plastic where an ID card could be.
-
A small but functional coin pouch was added.
-
A magnet (on the left) was used to hold notes, this was a thin magnet which was not strong enough.
-
Design 3:
-
I tried using leather, I used thin, light color leather. I tried sowing by hand but it didn't work well enough.
Design 4:
-
I created this fully out of dyed leather.
-
Instead of having a magnet strap come from the side, I made it come from the top and continue to the other side in a way that the same strap could also help close the wallet.
-
I kept the same card slots as the second prototype
-
To close the wallet, the strap had a magnet, the problem with this was that the magnet made close contact with the cards which could damage them.
-
As shown the cards fit, however they were very difficult to put in and take out so I will have to make the slots slightly larger.
-
The notes stick out too, giving another reason to make it larger
-
The coin pouch had velcro to open, and close it.
-
At this stage, the coin pouch was too close to the center, making it difficult to close, especially if it was full with coins
Final design:
-
I made these all the same size, slightly larger than the previous attempt.
-
All the cards were now easy to put in and take out.
-
These had buttons on them rather than magnets to close the wallet.
-
I made the gap between the coin pouch and the center smaller so that it could close all the way.
